The Professions (vocabulary)

Date: Tuesday, October 11th, 2016.

Topic: The professions.
Framework: PPP
Skill: Vocabulary

Teachers’ name: Cristian Aleman
Nelson Saravia
Yansi Hernández
Nicole Hernández

Discipline: Gabriela Callejas.

Ss arrived to the classroom and everything was prepare. Teachers Nicole, Yansi and Gaby provided the name tags to the Ss while T Cristian was explaining the Ss that they were going to have a quiz. Teachers provided the worksheet and T Cristian asked Ss to write their names and the date. After that, T read the instructions and Ss started to do it. When everybody had finished the exam teachers helped Ss to move the desk and form a semicircle.
Later, T Nicole divided the class in two teams. T explained the game “Try to reach the moon”. Ss had to throw the die two times, the numbers they get were the times that they had to jump in the hopscotch. The hopscotch simulates a rocket, so the students that reached the end of it got a point for his/her group.
Furthermore, T Cristian continue by presenting the new vocabulary about professions. He presented 3 professions. He showed the flashcards and asked Ss to say what picture it was, if it was the doctor, teacher, nurse, etc. Then, T showed the labels and pasted in the board with the flashcards. Also, T Nelson presented 5 more words in the same way as the other teacher. Both teachers also asked Ss to repeat the words after they pronounce them, so Ss could also learn and practice the pronunciation. Eight words were taught in total. After that, T Cristian presented the question “What do you want to be?” he explained how and when to use it. Also he presented the structure or way how to answer that question “I want to be a __”.Ss were going to use that structure later.
Besides, there were two practices. In the first one, T Nelson gave a worksheet to Ss where they had to match the professionals with the correct object they use. Ss worked quickly on that and T could check their answers by saying them correctly. Ss were paying attention to it because they want to see if they may have a mistake.
In the second practice, the memory game was played by Ss. T assigned students into two groups. They took turns to try to find the image with its correct label. If one student match a profession with its label, T asked the question “What do you want to be?” Ss had to answer using the structure T presented previously (I want to be a __.), and using the profession they found.
In the production, T asked Ss to stand up and make two lines. Ss were going to face each other to work in pairs. T provided a flashcard to each pair and they were going to make a mini roleplay. One Ss asked the question “What do you want to be?” and the other one answered using the structure “I want to be a__” and the profession T gave them. T were asking the pairs to do the practice one by one, so he could help them to do it correctly.
To conclude, T Yansi asked Ss to pass a ball. She started to count from 1 to 5 and when she said stop, she showed two flashcards and asked the student who got the ball “Do you want to be a __ or a ___?” Ss had to choose one profession and answer to the teacher.
The class was well organized, I really like to see that the teachers had an equally participation in the stages and that they could achieve the objective of the lesson.
